Wouldn’t You Like A Fairy Godmother?

Someone who could magically make things better, with a wave of her wand or a few special words…like Glinda The Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz. Sometimes, I do.

Even though a fairy godmother with a magic wand never appears, my imagination is a great Plan B. When I’m tired or not feeling like myself, I just let my mind wander. Letting our imagination wander, like kids so often do, can be a fun and much-needed respite for our minds. Have you ever tried it?

Ever since I was a little kid, I would daydream about being in other places and, sometimes, as different versions of myself: a princess, a doctor, a traveler…all sorts of variations of myself. Like creating a story where I had a starring role…and I could make the story be what I wanted it to be.

Honestly, I still do this and it’s a moment for my mind to rest and for me to experience something fun and different. I’m not talking about being disconnected from reality but, rather, allowing my mind to play. I close my eyes and let myself travel to a different place, within my mind, for a period of time. It’s wonderful. These days, I seem to be traveling in my mind to places where there’s snow. Not sure why…I dislike the snow. But in my daydream, it’s magical.

By allowing ourselves to play, within our minds, it allows us to be more and more creative. When I say creative, I’m not just talking about artwork. It also allows us to be creative with our ideas which have a direct influence on our personal and professional lives.

*If you could gift your mind with this magical voyage, where would you travel to and who would you be?

*How might allowing your mind to play with possibility impact the quality of your life?
