That’s what Paulo Coehlo exhorts in The Alchemist…the story of Santiago, a young shepherd who travels from his home in Spain to his ultimate destination…the pyramids in Egypt…in search of his tesoro, ie his treasure.
It’s the story of a Dream pursued with Courage and Faith…the dream of treasure in a far away place, the courage to take risks on behalf of that dream and the faith that he will be shown the way.
Coehlo repeatedly says “sigue las señales” …follow the signs…the signs that tell Santiago to stop or to press on… if he is truly listening to his inner voice. His intuition…not his fear nor his frustration nor his inclination to take the easy way out when things get hard.
In the end, Santiago finds his treasure, both literal and figurative, by never giving up, no matter how challenging or disheartening things seemed along the way. He never gives up.
Listen to your heart. Listen to your intuition.
-What is your treasure? (aka your dream)
-What is it telling you?
-Where is it leading you?
-What might you do to pursue your treasure?
