I’ll Take A Slice…Or Two

*Blueberry Pie             *Apple Pie

-Two of my mom’s signature desserts

-Her talent for baking

-Her love language

-Every Summer…every Fall…every Year

-Baked for family, friends and the community

-A gift

-Her gift

Even now…

-My mom has been gone for several years

-Whenever I see blueberry pie or apple pie I think of her

-Her glass Pyrex pie plate

-The image of her standing at the kitchen counter making the pie crust (and that big blue container of Crisco)

-The fruit bubbling up amidst the openings in the crust, as the pie baked

-The sight of the slowly, browning crust when the oven light was on

-Waiting patiently while the pie cooled on the wire rack

-The sound of the knife against the glass pie plate as slices were cut

-Scooping out the slice into old fashioned shallow, white ceramic bowls

-The pop of the bluish-purple berries, the crunch of the apples, the sweet smell of cinnamon, the flake of the crust

-images that are more than 50 years old (actually more)

-memories that evoke wellbeing and warmth

-simple yet powerful, ordinary yet profound

Our Gifts:

-Come in all shapes and sizes

-Represent us

-Are a unique expression of ourselves

-Offer an opportunity for giving

-Influence the world

*We are ALL gifted in some way. Yes, we are are all gifted…even if we are different. That’s actually what makes it so special. That’s the beauty of it. Different gifts to enrich each other…

-Do you believe that you are gifted?

-If you believe that you are, what gifts do you have to offer?

-How do you share them?

-If you don’t, what would it take to shift your perspective? To accept the possibility that you have something unique and special to share?

We are ALL gifted. The challenge is to believe that we are and, then, be willing to share…
